After tons of research I decided on the Frontier.  As soon as I took the first test drive I knew I had made the right decision.  I just brought it home yesterday.  This truck is awesome!  I can't believe the power this v6 puts out.  I am already envisioning how it will sound with a nice catback exhuast and some dual tips...

Has anyone modified their stock exhaust yet on the new 4.0?  What brand and how does it sound?...

Welcome to the org... these trucks are fun.

Word of advice, don't bother with a cat-back.  Just have a shop upgrade your piping, and get the muffler of your choice.  You'll save around $100-$300 doing this.

I personally love Ravin.  But they seem to be going out of business (plus mine isn't a dual)

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will check with one of the local muffler shops and see what they recommend.  Is it true that I can't have a dual rear exit exhaust due to the gas tank being plastic?...

I'm thinking something with a deep aggressive sound...

haven't heard anything about not being able to do it.  Most gas tanks are plastic anyway.  It just depends upon where it's located.  I don't think you'll have a problem though.  The spare tire would probably be the problem if it is true.

40 series flowmaster  Deep, aggressive, and LOUD!!!!

Welcome aboard "JBoat"

Con-grats on the new 05 Frontier truck...

I too agree with kcidmil regarding modifing the exhaust system. I had a local shop do mine as well. As for the tail pipes, just throw the spare tire in the bed untill you can get a custom type spare tire holder for it. I have duals on my 01 Frontier also and I use a baja style spare tire carrier for the spare, which is mounted in the bed of the truck.

Wish I could do that... but I have a bed cover on mine.  Besides, I want dual side, not dual rear.

I have an 05 NISMO and immediately had an exhaust put on. Go with what Kcidmil said..

Check out the muffler shop, that's what I did and I have a flow master 40 with the exhaust dumped out the side before the rear tire. I wanted a dual exhaust but the guy at the muffler shop said something about the cats.. I guess they are set up in such a fashion that putting a dual exhaust on would seriously rob your gas mileage, and you know as well as I do that the 4.0 doesn't get the best gas mileage.

Total for my setup, I spent about $250 and I'm very pleased with the throaty sound and the small improvement of gas mileage. After the exhaust was done, I could feel improvement in the power on the top of the scale but I felt like something wasn't right with the throttle response but that was all taken care of when I dropped a K&N in.

By the way, that engine has really responded extremely well to these two small mods I put on... not that I have papers to back up my statement or anything, but I'd say that I'm sitting at about 275hp and about 290ft lbs of torque. When I hit about 3 grand, there is no slowing down.

GREAT CHOICE!! Hope you continue to appreciate the raw power!

It can be done, I have a soft flush mount (roll-up) tonnue cover on my truck. I purchased a baja style spare tire carrier and cut four inches off of the two upright legs. Then I installed two Helix conduit connectors  to the up-right legs and the two base mount plates. It fit perfect under the cover. This pic shows a 33" (12.50/15") Goodyear MTR mounted on the carrier.

This is an older picture, taken right after installing the tire carrier. Since then I have also added a 48" High-Lift jack to the left og the tire on the bed floor and a small diamond plate tool box up closer near the rear of the cab for air locker compressor.

Well I have the Pace Edwards roll top cover.  That's around 2-3" lower than yours.  Plus... I still haven't gotten around to getting a full size spare.

Kcidmil, you can always fabricate your own. After all, the baja style spare tire rack is at an angle.

If you cut and weld the rack to make the tire lay flush with the bed you could easily spare 5 inches.

As far as a full sized spare......
