Hello from the State of Maine!

Just purchased a 2007 Silver Frontier King Cab XE and I could not be happier.  I commute round trip over 60 miles a day and decided on the 5 speed manual transmission.  After driving it the first time I remembered how much I enjoyed driving a stick from my youth.

For the past 27 years have always had to purchase vehicles more family oriented or for one reason or another one that would accomodate my spouse.  Finally got my turn to choose and I chose the Frontier after having owned Nissan products previously - my first car was a Datusn B-210!

Anyway - -I am very please with this truck and look forward to participiating in these forums.

Thanks for the welcome.

Went with a 4X2 due to mileage.  Been driving in this area since I got my license over 30 years ago.  If you put weight in the back and take it easy you'll be fine.  Cant count the number of any stlye of 4X4 I have seen stuck on the side of the road....

I had a 90 Pathfinder 4x4 back when I lived in Rhode Island... it got stuck once or twice in the snow. Either had to rock it back N forth, or find something to put under the tires for traction. Now I'm out here in Los Angeles with a 4x2 and nooooooooooo snow for miles! Just the way I like it!

Speaking of snow...

Here's a PIC from a DVD I made in my Hard Body 4x4 a few years back. It's the road known as Engineer Pass between Ouray and Lake City Colorado. The road has spots that are 20 degrees (up or down) and the altitude where the PIC was taken is over 12,800 feet. Warnning, do not try this at home without a 4x4.

... The wild thing is I did it without chains. I think the smoothness of the v-6 automatic and the Nissan LSD helped make the climb.

I commercially sell DVDs of trains, model trains, 4x4 mountain passes in Colorado, Jeep Jamboree USAs, and black power reenactments I also make music, wedding and family reunion DVDs

Have a good one, and CUL.. Don S..

I hear you about the Colorado trails, I recently hit a trail out in Gilpin county, part of the trail took me above the tree line and I had a beautiful 360 degree view. I'm glad I had 4x4... not to mention the recent blizzard, the nissan was unstoppable... I'm a dork though, I was driving around as much as I could in that mess.haha...

Hey everyone,

Quick comment on my truck.  As I stated in my first post I purchased a 4X2 5 speed manual transmission.  I would have preferred a 4X4 but was concerned about gas mileage.

Anyway -- I purchased ten - sixty pound bags of sand from Home Depot for extra weight.   We had a messy ice/sleet storm on Monday.  Tuesday morning I drove to work with all the extra weight in the back and I was extremely pleased on how well the truck handled on roads that were still pretty slick.

I was considering purchasing studded tires but as it stands right now don't think I will.  Studs are great on ice but I have heard the are not so hot on wet roads.  Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated too.

Thanks!

Make sure to check you state law on that.  Studs are only allowed here in SD from November to April.  Plus, they're just plain annoying on dry roads.  I have talked to a few people that have stated Blizzaks work just as well on snow and ice as studded tires.

My opinion, buy some chains for really bad weather, keep the weight in the bed.  I drove around here for 3 years with a 4x2, and only got stuck once.  And I'm ashamed to say that it was in a parking lot.  I parked up on mound of ice, and let the front wheels to roll into a divet.

Thanks for the tip on the Blizzaks - just did some research on the net and they certainly get some very favorable reviews from people (hopefully not Bridgestone employees giving the reviews).

Maine is the same as SD -- studs only Nov thru April.  From the experience I had in yesterday's weather think I will stick with what I have for the rest of this year and up for the Blizzak for next season.  (Winter is late this year here - so I have'nt driven in all the different conditions...yet.  I live what is considered coastal and we do tend to get a heavier type of snow - as opposed to 'fluffy" and more ice/sleet type of storms .)

Thanks!

The one downside I've heard is they are only great in snow and ice.  I'm not sure, as i've never owned a set myself.

I would personally find a good set of All-Season All Terrains.  BF Goodrich has some good stuff.  I had a set of wranglers that were decent as well.
