I'm considering purchasing an '06 Frontier Crew Cab or an '07 Ford Sport Trac. Can you fill me in on what you guys like about the Frontier? What would you recommend as options and necessary options. Thanks, Tim in FL

..

eTimi;

... I can't help with the new Frontier other than it would be the first one I'd really look at. A close friend bought a new Sport Trac. He likes it buts it's had transmission and clutch problems and he now knows all the people in the dealership shop by their first names. It was a fairly rare manual  transmission model. I drove it when it was new, as it the first day!  It was nice but the clutch and gearshift were very stiff.

.. I hang around an automotive shop and see how most trucks hold up after a few years of service. I don't like some of the syntheic matierals Ford has been using under the hood like some intake manifolds

I've owned Nissan and Jeep trucks continuously for 22 years. From what I see I'm still very happy with Nissan products.

Have a good one,  and  CUL.. Don S..

that all depends on what you are going for as far as ride quality too, the frontier is a truck, fully boxed frame, just like it's bigger brother the Titan, and also has the same rear end as the titan i believe with the towing package, some might be able to answer that better than i can, i do know that since i believe 05 or this year, the sport trac (i.e. explorers) are less trucks as they have less ground clearance, and have gone to independent suspension all the way around and it also rides smoother, the frontier has a stronger engine b/w the two 6 cylinders and also more towing capacity b/w the two 6 cylinders (btw both are 4.0L V6's), Ford does offer the 4.6L V8 in the XLT and Limited models which has 292HP, about 25 more than the 06 Frontier. Payload capacities are virtually b/w the two and only with the Sport Trac V8 option do you have about 300 more lbs towing capacity. gas mileage b/w the 2 is slightly better listed no teh frontier but only by 1 mpg, I rode in a new sport trac this weekend that my gf was test driving and while it is nice...i prefer nissan and liked by brother's 05 frontier better, tho the inside of the sport trac has gotten nicer than it used to be as far as styling.

also keep in mind if you need more bed space, the 07 LE frontier crew cab is now being offered with a long bed option like the older ones has the option for but i believe it's only on the LE model

I checked out the Sport-Trac while I was checking on a Ranger back in 2004.

After taking a Sport-Trac out for a test drive, it felt very heavy and sluggish with the 4.0L V-6!!! They now come with a 292 hp V-8 as an option, and that would be the way to go in my opinion. On the other hand, the Ranger felt quite nimble and quick with that same 4.0L V-6, hence that was they way I ended up going!!

My next truck will be the Frontier king cab for sure!!

From what I'm seeing in several of these forums, the Frontier sounds like a great truck.  I'm looking at ordering an '07 and have just about convinced myself to plunk down the $.  Does anyone know how the ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip) works?  I understand the part about it applying brake to a slipping wheel under acceleration to theoretically transfer power to the opposing wheel, but is it operational only in low range, or is it operating all the time?  I'd think you'd have scenarios where you'd actually want to have a little slip and it could cause you to get stuck by keeping you from spinning a tire when needed.  I also tend to get concerned when you have a function like that that tries to second guess the driver, as stuff like that never seems to do exactly what you want.  Anyone have the tech info on the parameters under which it operates?
