I'm also a new owner of an 05 frontier SE 2x4, and after talking with several people, it seems that the nissan dealership and K&N (a little cheaper) both offer a cold air intake to replace your existing air filter box.  Everyone I have talked to that have installed one said they are getting between 3-5 additional miles PER GALLON.  It looks really cool too.  Sounds pretty promising.....think I may be getting one soon.  It will probably set you back around 300 bucks.

I also have heard that covering your bed will improve gas mileage some.  Even if you get a soft roll up cover, it should still help.

I recently managed to get 405 miles on a single tank -o- gas.  At just under 19 gallons that is 21MPG.  That is mainly (85%) highway driving and I really featherd the gas and break - and use cruze like crazy.  That was the only way I was able to achieve that type of milage.  Normally I can get 340-360 miles per tank.  chucknorris - you have the 4X4 which means you are probably gonna get less than the 4X2  will but the mods (filter) will help.

Syn,   thanx for the advise;  ive just recently came back from a 900 mile drive from louisiana to ohio.....13 funfilled hours later i made it....my numbers were pretty similar to what you were talking about....about 370 on a full tank..

im looking into a k&N filter right now.   on an off subject question: do you know of what other types of rims are available to our trucks?  ive tried my best to look them up on tirerack.com and wheelmax to no avail....not sure if you knew but figuring asking never hurts.  the wheels that came with the truck are stock 16's and i want to go to 18's....nothing to bling bling but something to add some flare....hit me up sometime on this question....l

K&N filter helped my Frontier, and so did a bed cover.

For rims... I don't know of any other places off hand that have them.  Look in the performance and Mods section.  There's a sticky thread in there about rims.

I have the king cab 06 4x4, with a gibson exhaust, stock intake and manual trans.  I am running full synthetic oil in the engine, and cruising at 85 on the freeway I see about 20-21, cruising at 70 i see about 22-23, and around town i average about 19-20, i live in a hilly area too.

Has anyone been able to take note of the total miles on a tank you've gotton and how much gas you had left?  I have gotton 410 miles on one tank and had 1/16 of a tank - just above "E".

chucknorris - I have not looked into wheels.  I will ask around but I think the best place to start is a performance shop and go from there.

Good luck!

I just helped my girlfriend pick out an 06 CC 4x2 with the auto, and it does seem to get noteably worse mileage than my KC  4x4 6spd.  She seems to be averaging around 18 or so.   I just put some super swampers on mine, so we will se what that does to the mileage.
