I haven't posted on here for a wjile but thought I would share this.  I have been using Purolator Pure 1 filters on my 2007 V6 Fronty for about 3 years.  Last oil change I decided to use my remaining Nissan oil filter.  I always use Mobil 1 5W-30 oil.  Interestingly as the temperatures started to lower as fall progressed, I started to get a lot of startup valve noise that disappears only after about 5 minutes.  Never had this on the Pure 1 filters.   So just a heads up.  Anyone else have a similar experience?

..

You would think it's a drain back problem.

I have not looked at the second generation Frontier V-6s but on the 3.3 V-6 the filter is so low it can't drain back. I've only used Nissan filters on my '99 Frontier and had no problems.

Have a good one.. Don S..

Boomer, I've been using the Pure one for some time now with
the Amsoil 5w-30, at times I get the usual timing chain
clatter for a few secs. at cold start, done this since day
one. This engine uses cam followers(solid) as opposed to
hydraulic lifters, are you sure you are not hearing the
timing chains???

Could be the chains but I don't hear the noise with the Pure 1 filters.  Nothing serious, just an observation.  I am not impressed with the internals of the Nissan filter after cutting one open, espaecially now that the ones I see at the dealer are Chinese.

The latest batch of the smaller Nissan filters we got, say
made in Japan!!!!!! I guess that is a step in the right
direction.

Hey, that's great to see that some Japanese made filters are back!  I tend to avoid anything I can that is made in China as I continually see issues and quality problems.
