question, it's about time for my next oil change, and it's only the second one i've done since i got my fronty, an 01 SE CC, and it looks like the previous owner last put Pennzoil 10W-30 in it..and i went with Castrol 5W-30, but was considering going to synthetic, any recommendations, and any i should stay away from, or is it a bad idea over all since I've got just over 50,000 miles on my truck. Let me know what y'all think, appreciate it.

I would use a 10w-30 in the summer, If you live in the south, use it year round.I just dont like super thin oils.

I use moblil1, cost about 5 dollars more a oil change, but its the best. And buy a good oil filter, not a paper one like Fram, those are crap. Check out this study done a few years back.

thanks for the information but my original question still stands, is there any problem with switching to synthetic after this oil change, i'm gonna go with the pet. oil this time, and i'm just over 50k on my odometer, but i'm considering going to the synthetics due to the better wear and protection. but wondering if i should look out for anything since it's thinner typically, such as leaking gaskets and such, it really shouldn't but wondering if any of y'all had any bad experiences makign the switch to synth from regular oil.

Going synthetic is perfectly fine, going back will bring all sorts of problems.

..

... I have used regular Pennzoil for three decades in all my vehicles with no problems. I recently switched our two Nissans to Wal-Mart Super-Tech pure synthetic. It has very competitive price in the 5 quart jug, and occasionally hard to fine but I stocked up on it. The last I’d heard it was packaged by Pennzoil and is their pure synthetic. I don’t think there is a lot of different except in the heat range.

BTW… I use the truck oil filter on our 3.3 Frontier and on our 1.8 Sentra and buy 10 at a time with a little discount from Nissan Parts. The truck filter is a little larger.

Have a good one and ;) CUL.. Don S..

Also lubrication technology.  That's why you can switch from petro oil, to synthetic, but can't go back without changing most of the seals
