Hi

New to forum so I hope I am posting correctly.  I am wondering if any one knows for sure if a 5 spd manual transmission from a Nissan D21 4 cyl model will fit a 4 cyl 1999 Frontier without modificatios.  Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Martin

What year is it coming out of? The D21 was produced from 86.5 - 97. Your local salvage yard should have a cross reference to tell which years will fit. The 5 speed manual has been the same for years, with minor changes. D21-D22 may be too many differences??

Hi Frontierguy

The truck I can get the transmission from is a 1997.  I asked the scrapyard they were unsure.  Their software can only tell the years that model was in production.  I have been told the monly difference is the next model year used the same engine but it was changed to a DOCH versus the D21 model SOCH.  If this is true I would think it should work but I really can not afford to buy it I am not sure it will fit.

Thanks for the quick response.

What is the problem with your trans.? They are very basic and simple to rebuild if you have a competent dealer or trans shop in your area. Idid a search on car-part.com for a 1999 trans and it doesn't list any older than 98 ??? The D21 trans may not fit the DOHC engine? Won't your salvage yard let you return it if it doesn't fit?< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

I have taken it apart.  The first two gears are missing the teeth.  Priced out getting the parts and rebuild it is more then I want to spend on the truck.  The problem with the scrap yard is I would have to take the transmission out myself.  If it were summer I may have considered it.  We have had a recent cold snap and have snow on the ground.
