I will be buying a Frontier in the next month or so and I want to know which years are the best or are most the same in terms of safety, reliability, performance.  I am thinking of one in the years of 2000-2004.  Please be very honest cuz I don't want to end up with a pos.

02-06

There is some argument over which motor for the 02-04 though.  Many of us believe that the Eaton Supercharger in the SUPERCHARGED edition sucks, and that you're better off getting a regular V6.  Others think it's just fine.

Also I would check with your insurance, it might end up costing more to get a S/C edition.

For the new 3rd gen (05-06) trucks, the 4.0 is said to be a gas hog.  So a 02-04 would be your best bet.  Though a member is trying to sell his Crew Cab in the for sale section, check it out.

(said in best Bill Lumberg (spelling?) voice) ....um...yeahhhhhhhh....i'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. LOL j/k with ya..

seriously, the 3.3L V6 wasn't exactly a gas saver motor...rating for city put it at i don't remember 17 mpg range..and i avg about that sometiems more and that's driving very conservatively, my brother had an 2005 Frontier til he traded it in for his Titan and he would actually avg about the same as me if not better. He actually avg. 18 mpg towing his jeep off road rig on a 1000 lb trailer about 70 miles and back with it as well. plus it's a hell of a lot more powerful of an engine, i can tell you if i could afford it.i would have bought an '05 frontier myself or a titan, but alas budget is a factor..and that's not to say i'm not happy with my fronty..i have an '01 crew cab 3.3 and i like it...but we have to be honest, we kinda got screwed in the motor department...they should have dropped the 3.5 from the pathy in it, because it got same mpg and i believe 240 horses and 260 ft./lbs. of torque. anyway...i personally think the newer ones are nice, but i do agree with kcidmil, that there is debate between the S/C model and the reg V6 and personally i could have had a super nice 02 S/C desert runner for cheaper than what i paid for mine..but i didn't feel like feeding it premium gas all the time and felt like for a S/C engine...the extra 40 horses wasn't a huge gain, tho it'd be nice i'm sure. anyway..tha'ts my dollar's worth of 2 cents, and for comparison, here is information from the 04, 05, and 06 off of autotrader.com sorry if it's not a link but you can cut and paste

..

ferfer6;

... I am very happy with my ’99 3.3 Frontier Se KC with Automatic and LSD but they didn’t make a CC that year. I all get the 17 to 21 MPG or better that the sticker said. Only had one minor warrantee adjustment.

… Now that I’ve replaced the tires with 31” BFG KO ATs I’m glad it has 15 inch wheels because the 15” tires are a LOT cheaper than the 16” or larger tires of the same diameter. I will not be buying any more 4x4s with 16” or larger rip-off tires and wheels. Phouque Bling Bling!

… This is a very quiet 4x4 and I can enjoy my CDs.

Happy Holliday Season

Have a good one  and CUL.. lakota

I drive my 05 SE around all day long for work (100 plus a day) and I get about 18 mpg unless I jump on it.  I average about 290 a tank, but my guage needs work so I might get more.

I think the 2006 version is best, looks and performance wise. Currently own a 04' Ranger, but those 265 ponies on the new Frontier do have my attention!! This will be my next truck come 2008.

I really don’t want to talk bad about a truck that I have had only for a few months but here it is.  I have been having the following problems w/ my 2005 Crew Cab 2 wheel Drive LE Frontier & 3500 miles. *BREAKS, for the past month my breaks have been squeaking when ever I slow down off & on.  I usually notice this problem when I go drive thru to a restaurant.  *SEAT BELT, my passenger rear mid seat belt does not pull out all the way.  I went on vacation & had five people in my truck & that’s how I found out it was defective.  I went to the dealer & they said they will replace it.  SEAT, Just like another post I am having the same problem w/ my passenger seat its fuzzy.  DOOR MOLDING, the top rear passenger molding looks like its coming off.  I do not go off roading or do any aggressive driving at all.  I am curious & wonder if I got a bad lemon?
