This is gonna sound weird, but the past few months the best i"ve been
getting is 17.2 mpg no matter how i ran the truck. and the past couple of
mornings the engine was not turning over like it used to like a low voltage
crank so yesterday morning the battery ended up dying i took the red top
out of my other truck and the dam thing didn't fit anyways i get a new
battery in it and i drove about 280 miles today and didn't go under 80 and it
was all over 19 20 mpg   i dont understand! ya think the battery had
something to do with it?

dannny here. Heres a shot if the battery had been weak you could of been working your altanator harder which puts drag on the motor. I`ve heard and seen a half a mile to mile mpg increase by a better battery but dang near 3 feww weee thats neat/sweet

Honestly optimas and any other gel cells are only good for 2 things.  Offroading, and stereo comps.  I've been dealing with optimas since they have come out, and I've gone from thinking they're pretty good, to they're mostly overated.  You actually need to charge them for a long time before they're any good.  And have had more problems out of them than regular liquid batteries.

..

The "at rest" voltage seems to be a little less with the Optimas and they don't create as much corrosion. You can mount them upside down. When off roading I carry a back-up Optima in the bed of the truck. It's great for camping.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
