I have looked at advanced, autozone, and napa. It is a very different kind of bulb. it actually has a plastic tube that locks into a green circuit board, and makes a connection. what is this bulb actually called? any part numbers?

Some bulbs have a removable colored rubber(yea, like a condom). Will the bulb separate from the part that locks it into the control panel? You may have to replace the bulb and socket as a complete unit. Have you removed it yet? And if so, a picture would help, I might have one in my bulb collection.
