Hey guys. I have an 06 Frontier 6 speed v6 4.0 and I get about 17 to 18 mpg. Can anybody tell me what they have and what kind of mpg's they get?  I was just wondering if there was something wrong with the truck. Its supposed to get about 23 mpg.

Thanks!

You will find a lot of MPG talk at:

I for one do not think your user name is very cool!

Well thanks lakota, but I was asking about the MPG's, not my user name. I wasnt trying to be "cool" by putting it on here, its just a user name. No biggy. Sorry if I offended you.

See my post "Big Trip Mileage".  Use Mobil 1 oil and change out your rear diff oil to Mobil 1 75W-90.  Drive like there is an egg under the accelerator pedal.  Allow your truck to roll up to stop signs (anticipate the stop).  Consolidate trips and keep excess weight out of the truck.  When I am just running around town for a few weeks, I take the spare tire out to save weight.   Keep your tires aired up and perhaps just a pound or two over 35 psi.

Alright thanks! Ill do that. I cant really drive like there is an egg under the pedal cause I live on top of a mountain and sometimes it luggs and I have to give it quite a bit of gas to get back up to speed after taking a big turn on a hill.

The frontier is not the best as far a gas milage goes. I average about 13mpg city. I can get up to 21mpg hiway ( reset the counter ) as long as its flat and I keep it under 65. I just pulled my 3700lb trailer threw the rocky mountains in Canada and I was getting about 10.5-11 mpg. I have the auto crew cab 4x4 nismo with the larger stock tires. For an example my neighbor pulled about the same size trailer same place with a chevy trailblazer straight 6 about same power torque. His trailer was loaded with water and 2 more more passangers. He made the trip on 80.00 dollars worth of gas and it costed me $180.00

I can't figure why so many are getting such poor mileage.
I have a 2006 King Cab 4x4 4.0V6 6-speed, Unicover shell,
stock P265 tires, and about 24,000 miles.
I just completed a 3 day camping trip into the Colorado
mountains with a full day of dirt road + some 4WD.
Drove 647 miles with overall MPG of 24.6 - all using
85 octane regular (with 10% Ethanol).  The last leg
of the trip coming home - 128 miles - I got 30.5 MPG!
Highway I70 miles at altitude - starting at 7,900 ft,
up over two passes each 11,300 ft and back down to Arvada
at 5,700 ft, and going speed limit of 65 MPH.
Like others I use fully synthetic Mobil 1 everywhere
I can - motoroil, transmission, differentials.  Only
modification is a K&N air filter.
Needless to say, I am very happy with this truck.

WHHHAAAATT?? Thats insane. I live in the mountains and around most of the curves I am in 3rd or 4th gear but when its fairly straight I shift as low as I can as to where I wont lug the engine. I use Castoral non synthetic but am majorily thinking about switching to synthetic Mobil1 everywhere.  One question for you billa2006se, will installing a K&N air filter void any warentees?
