I have an 03 Frontier with a L/S rear end.  I have read on here that it's possible to up the ft/lbs on the break-away strength of the clutches. How do I get started, who do I need to talk to?  I really want to up the break-away strength and maybe even get lockers someday.  ARB's are the only lockers I can find.  Would it be cheaper/easier to do a Dana swap front and rear or just give in and pay for the ARB's????  Thaks for any help!!

yes you can mod the LSD I have done it it will take me a while to find the write up. I would not change out the rear end to a 44 if you have the HB233 its a much stonger set up. granted the only locker is the ARB but there is a way around that to but its a lot of work.

Hi Billyc i have the 2002 hardbody (frontier in the US) Its a 4x4 and comes standard with a gearmax difflock. Some people fit ARB lockers and a LSD up front. Its quite awsome, I see you already have the lift and i hope bigger wheels. For sure a difflock is recommended, although the nissan LSD system isnt that bad either as long as you put the right oil in the diff eg LSD oil. My 2c worth  Cheers Ian

I appreciate all the info guys. I'm wondering how your 02 Frontier came with a gearmax locker?? Is it the same rear end as what comes on the Frontier's here.  Also, where would I find a LSD for the front end?  I recently changed the oil in my rear end and used the LSD oil plus an additive for LSD's that was recommended to my by a mechanic.  It seemed to be getting weak but now it seems to have improved since the oil/additive change but I still want more. Thanks for the help guys

I've been reading a little on the gearmax. Looks like it's only available around your area.  Any info on how to maybe get one??

Man I appreciate the write up!  You said you had it done to yours, how much difference have you noticed with the traction and tire wear. My Frontier is a daily driver so I am somewhat concerned with tire wear.  Sounds fairly easy and cheap though.  I'm guessin I can get the extra clutch plates from my local auto parts store???...

I copied the set up out of an early 90's pathfinder 280Ft. Lbs break away VS the stock at about 130 the only time I notice it it if I get on it going around a corner I get a little chirp nothing to bad as for tire wear have not noticed anything abnormal. you will have to order the parts from your local Nissan dealer some of the stuff they dont stock so it may take a couple more days to get.

Thanks again. You've been a huge help!  I hate to bother you by asking so many questions but i have a couple more...  First, do you know of any LSD's for the front end?  And second,  has it made a significant difference on your off road performance?   Thanks again for all the help.
