I'm taking the pioneer headunit out of my last car and installing it in my 06 fronty.  The  head unit is a pioneer but its  1 year old (installed in my jetta last summer) . Its not listed on the  pioneer website anymore and I'm wondering if and where I can get mounting hardware for it. Are the head units more or less universal in size?

Yep, they come in 3 main sizes.  Single Din, Double Din, Din and a half (aka GM Din)

Single Din and Double Din are your most often used.

I called best buy today and they have the appropriate dash kit and hardware and wiring harness to giter done. I just gotta go over and pick it up and get to work.

Next question. Anyone have any idea how to get the stock stereo out?

You should just have to unbolt the center trim and pop it out.  The H/U should then just have to unbolted as well.  Take your time while taking apart the dash, make sure to disconnect any plugs for cigarette lighter, ABS, etc.  Also DO NOT turn the key on while the ABS switch or light is UNPLUGGED.  This will cause a fault code to be stored, and you will have to pay Nissan $60 to get it cleared.
