When I hook up my trailer, the running lights work fine. The brake lights work fine. The blinkers SOMETIMES work. Often though, it just blinks once and then nothing - on the trailer or the truck. (2014 Frontier). When I disconnect the trailer harness (4 pin) and turn the blinkers off and back on, they work (on the truck). I've chased down the wiring on the trailer and everything seems fine (wiring is good, good ground, etc)
