I have a 2000 nissan frontier 2.4l. I had a blown head
gasket and when I pulled the head off some of the lifters
fell out, I didn't know it mattered where they went till
it was all back together. Now the truck will not start. It
turns over fast and sounds like it's turning over faster
than it should. Would the lifters being mixed up cause
this? Sounds like no compression or bad timing.

I believe there were like 6 that fell out some
intake and some exhaust.

Take a compression check. My guess would valves stuck or lifter collapse.

Ok I pulled the valve cover off today when it
finally stopped eating and the intake side has a
gap between the lifter bucket thing with a shim on
it and the cam that about 1/4 inch on all the ones
that the lines are off of. Head was just at the
shop and checked out fine so it has not been
started yet. How would I go about fixing the gap?

How can the lifter collapse I that it was just a
bucket with a shim on top.

Sorry but I've never worked on an over head cam engine. the V-8s that the lifters ride the cam can loose oil when removed. On high mileage ones they can loose oil just sitting around.
I did my first valve job in 1951 on a 1950 flathead I-6 Plymouth and did it by hand without pulling the valves completely out. Just took the keepers out and used valve grinding compound on the seats.
It ran great.. Don S..
