I have a 2006 v6 frontier crew cab with a man trans. and I have hauled a ton of gravel without any problems. Today I hauled 2 ton of gravel on a dual axle trailer which was 5,000 lbs total.  The truck would not rev over 2000 rpm.  The truck would just jerk as if I were trying to drive the truck in too high of gear. It would barely go over a small hill and which is a problem because I live in the Appalachian mountains.  I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if so can it be fixed?  I have had other trucks that would pull this amount of load.  Considering the horsepower and towing capacity I felt that it should do this without any problems. After unloading the gravel the truck has driven noramally, is there a sensor that will make the truck do this?

you should have gottten the automatic, automatics are alot stronger and more efficient than the manual and the frontier and titan share the same auto transmission the guts and internals are the same but the bell housing is different to bolt up to the v6.

I have an 06' manual 4x4, and i have towed stuff about that heavy with no trouble.  As to the reference for manual transmissions being weaker, I would say that is definatley open to debate, i'll always take a manual over an auto.

Me too. I routinely pull people out of holes on the beach. I have an 06 VQ40 4X4 with the 6-sp man. I pulled a PT Cruiser for about a half mile in soft sand and up a pretty steep hill (anyone who's seen a Daytona Beach ramp knows how steep) I had no trouble, but I was in 4LO the whole time.

If you don't know exactly what you're doing with a man, it can get you into trouble, but it works well for me. Autos are easier but not as fun

+1 on that... sorry vq40de, but you're way off on that one.  How could a transmission where you have a torque converter, clutch bands, and clutches be stronger than a transmission where the only slipping could be a clutch?  And also you have the SURE contact of metal gearing.

If a automatic tranny was so much stronger, you would see them in the 5th wheels instead of a manual.

since you know so much potna i work as a service mechanic at nissan of slidell. and the frontier with the vq40de and the automatic it is a bullet proof drivetrain. the 6 speed manual comes with a dana 44 rear axle which is an american f**king axle and is a god damn peice of sh*t. the automatic is the exact same transmission as the titan, the only difference is the bell housing for the mighty v8. you can do more with the automatic than in the manual and the automatic pulls alot better than the manuals. we have slidell ford lincoln mercury right next door and the same with the ford f250 diesel the automatic is just alot better than the manual. and by 2010 nissan will not make a f**king manual trans every car and truck will be cvt so how ya like that sh*t.

um, you do know that these trucks are built here in the US right? and was that totally necessary, that's great that you are a technician at nissan, since you have access to numbers, do us a favor and post some numbers are how many auto vs manual trannys come in for work on the frontys starting from say 01 and up. I'd be interested in seeing that. I will grant that most people who have tow rigs almost always seem to have auto trannys at least from what i've seen and heard, but again i could be wrong. i'm just curious.
