Hi,
I have a 2000 Frontier 4cyl 2wd manual transmission.
Lately there has been an intermittent acceleration problem that only occurs from a stopped position.
I start letting out the clutch and depress the gas pedal and there isn't any response, (no increase in RPMS or speed). When this happens I must immediately depress the clutch or the truck stalls. This problem is intermittent and cannot be replicated on demand. Further, this doesn't seem to occur at driving speeds.
I checked the pedal and throttle cable / leakage and both appeared to be functioning normally.
Any ideas on the cause?
Thanks.

Yes,
I did clean inside the throttle body. It wasn't that dirty anyway. I also sprayed some lube (liquid wrench silicone) on the leakage.
It's very weird. At times, it seems the gas pedal has no effect, like it's not connected.
Would a failed / failing sensor cause this?
Any help would be appreciated.

Check engine lite on? Are you using a Nissan oil
impregnated air filter? As lakota mentioned, did you clean
the fine wires of the MAFS not just the throttle body air
passage?

H,
>Check engine lite on?
No, other than this problem, the truck is running great.
>Are you using a Nissan oil
impregnated air filter?
No, and I haven't for years (7+)
>did you clean
the fine wires of the MAFS
No, this isn't mentioned in Chilton's Nissan Frontier book. Can you point me to a specific procedure?
Would a failure of the MAFS sensor cause an intermittent problem?
Thanks.

Almost sounds that as the demand for fuel increases rapidly (you are poushing down the gas pedal to satrt a large piece of metal), there is something obstructing fuel flow.
1. Is the fuel pump starting to go? I am not sure wher the pump is on a 2000 but if it is in the tank, this is the type of symptom I have seen when these start to go. Is there any constant whining from the pump?
2. Is the fuel filter clogged and not allowing fuel to flow?

Hi,
>1. Is the fuel pump starting to go?
The fuel pump is still working, but I don't know if it is working fully / correctly. According to Chilton's I will need vacuum gauge to measure (and compare to std). I haven't done this type of work before so...
>2. Is the fuel filter clogged and not allowing fuel to flow?
The fuel filter appears to be working normally.
Thanks.

Remove the air cleaner. Look into the small opening of the
throttle assy., you will see the wires of the MAFS, clean
w/ approved cleaner, install Genuine Nissan oil impregnated
air filter. Yes, a malfunctioning MAFS will cause your
concern. Be sure the lower rubber seal along w/ the upper
rubber grommets are in place for the air cleaner assy.
There is also the chance of moisture and dirt in the dist.
of the engine. There is a new revised dist available, but
usually all that is required is cleaning out the dirt and a
new NISSAN cap and rotor.
