Recently my 2001 Frontier SE started throwing the P1126 code. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor and yesterday the sending unit. Today the code popped up again and there is a clear fluid leak that is not brake fluid. I don't know if these 2 events are related. It doesn't make any sense that they would be. And I did not clear the previous P1126 code but have now to see if it re-occurs.

I plan to replace the thermostat next but am completely confused as to why there is a leak now. And it isn't a drip here and there. I am getting puddles.

Has anyone seen a combo of issues like this or do you think I am experiencing 2 distinct problems with bad timing?

Thanks for your help.

The only other clear liquid I can think of is water from
the A/C evaporator and windshield washer bottle. Perhaps
the bottle cracked for a leak while you were working on it.
I did that once.

Good Luck.. Don S..

The AC evaporator is all that makes sense to me. But I've never seen one produce like this. I caught the leak in a glass bowl to be sure of its color. The windshield wiper fluid is blue and as mentioned the leak is clear and thin.

I made a run this morning after which I noticed the leak. It was upper 40s here this morning and humid. I had the defroster on real low to keep the windshield clear but I used the heater and not the AC..??..

So what can make the evaporator run like that?

Many cars and trucks including mine run the A/C with the
defroster. The defroster's job is to dry the moisture off
the glass. The A/C helps by drying the the (inside or
fresh)air.
I personally don't like the air on with the defroster be
cause it lowers the fuel mileage but it does clear the
windshield quicker.
The A/C also works at another setting but I forgot what
it was... Getting old has it's problems...

Good Luck.. Don S..

Most vehicles today run the compressor when the defroster is on like Don says.  This was done because folks were not running the air conditioner in the winter (duh) and the seals on compressors were "drying out" over the winter causing Freon leaks.  This way, the compressor runs in the winter every time you have the defroster s on.

Freon leaks are no-nos as the environmental consequences of leaking coolants, even 134a, are felt in reduced ozone in the stratosphere and that results in more high energy UV reaching ground level.

Thanks for all the responses. I have noticed that the compressor is on if you turn the fan on for heat or AC.

I'll keep an eye on it for a while and see what happens. I reacted to the volume of water which is unusually high even for full AC in the summer.

Thanks again.
