Hello all,
1st time here at the forums and I wanted to see if anyone could help me with my questions.
A little bit of history... I had an 04 Frontier 4 cyl manual trans and loved it. I just needed more room for myself as well as additional passeengers.
My current model is 06 LE 6cyl auto trans with 3000 miles on it
My questions are, 1. Fuel milage, I avg 14 to 16 MPG
Now I have a heavy foot at times and my avg speed on the highway is 80 but even when I lay off the gas and drive more econimical the best I get is 16 mpg. It seems from what I have read that this is normal. Is there anything that can be done to improve the fuel milage really? Stupid question I know but worse not to ask
2. Brakes, These brakes are odd in my opinion, they feel non linear and inconsistant. Stoping force vs pedal position are not consistant or equal when appling or releasing the brake pedal, any ideas on this? If they are power assited I want my 04 brake system back.
3. Loose handling and wandering. This truck does not want to pick a strait line. The steering feels tight with no play but I still get a significant amount of wandering.
4. Some rattle noises but I just turn up the radio. I did notice one of the main noises was coming from the passanger seat belt buckle vibrating against the side of the cab so no biggie.
Honestly these are little things that if I could fix it would make the truck an 10 over its current 9
Thanks

I find that unless I keep RPMs at or below 2500, I only get about 17 mpg, whether it's highway or city driving. If I do all highway and resist the urge to pass at the speed of sound, I can get 20 on the highway. I also keep my tire PSI around 38.

Hmmm, sorry to hear yours isn't getting the best mileage. I have an 06 with a manual and 4 wheel drive, and i average beteween 19 and 21, and that is even hot rodding it at times. I did notice that i get worse mileage if i run shell fuel though, because it has 10% ethanol is my guess. I am going to try running higher octane fuel and see if i notice a difference in mileage.

Hrm yah I think I will switch to 89 or 92 octane and check / increase my tire pressure.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I was contemplating adding some HP increasing items such as fresh air intake to see if it helps me keep my foot out of it.

I have an 05 NISMO 4X4 and I'm averaging 18.5 mpg, and that's with the automatic transmission. I have added a CAI, TBS, Exhaust, and a device called the ECO-2 that's added an additional 1 mpg to my average. Prior to these mods, I couldn't get over 15 mpg, and that was driving pretty conseratively! So, the mods do help!
