Hey there, the names Ben and I seriously love my Truck. Got a 2000 Frontier XE, Reg Cab 2.4L 4X2 with a pretty good set of miles and a perfect trail blazer! As most of you may know that Nissans are pretty reliable. Little over 230,000 miles...

With that said before you all think im crazy for purchasing this vehicle, aside from maintaining the vehicle on a regular basis (Oil, Trans Fluid ect.) I have had little to no problems. She got an all new exhaust, tire-rod ends and brakes before I bought it. I have put loads of misc. accesories on the truck as its my first and Im not planning on selling it. Ive put...

-Rain Guards

-Westin Bull/Brush Bar w/ Pilot Fog Lights

-CARR Light Bar w/ Pilot Off Road Lights, I only have two but I plan on adding two more...

-Orange Cap Lights for the top of the cab.

Ive also got a toolbox but I dont use it so I took it off.

I plan on throwing some bigger tires on probably some GT General Grabber A/Ts, or Yokohama Geolanders im going to go as big as I can without having to remove my fenders or rub my frame I work at discount tire so as soon as im done saving for prom im going to start saving for these bad boys. This should finish my bold Off-Road look, ive been trail blazing with this truck and its quite fun, im carefull though. I aint got a 4X4...! Oh well. Sorry if this is long! Pictures soon.

Welcome

That sounds great. For trail blazing if you don’t have a Limited Slip Differential it should be on top of your modification list. When you are driving and the trucks suspension is double off camber you will only have ONE wheel driving and it will be the one with the least amount of traction! A rear limited slip differential out of a 99 Frontier 4x4 like mine is a very good choice. It has a good off road gear ratio and an LSD.

Large tires will hurt the crawl ratio and you’ll need that at times. A one inch lift will clear BFG KO 31x10.50x15s All terrains. These BFG tires have tough sidewalls but perhaps you don’t have sharp rocks like are in the Colorado Rockies.

Have a good one.. Don S..

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Ive definitly got plans for the truck. I'm
also going to put a bug deflector on the front of the hood as the 2000
Frontiers hood does at a slope kind of crappy, mudflaps ect. Just little
things after my new tires, im also going to put a cold air intake and a
Flowmaster 44 in.

The LSD will reduce chances of getting stuck almost in half!

The differential gear ratio in my 99 4x4 is 4.62 and that is better on the trail...

Never been stuck.. Don S..

How do I do that? Can I buy some sort of kit at
auto-zone? Im planning on spacers once I get
my new big tires and stuff, just for a safe
suspention off road.

I think there is a major different in the early Frontier suspensions. Mainly that the rear axle is mounted spring under on 2wd and spring over on the 4x4s. Check that and keep in in mind as you read what I did to my 4x4 to lift it for clearance of the 31x10.50 x15 tires.

The front suspension is Torsion Bars. I measured the height of the fenders on both sides. Then adjusted the Torsion Bars for a 5/8 inch lift. The adjustment is made at the rear of the bars and don’t forget the lock nuts.

The rear axle on my 4x4 is under the leaf springs and I added one inch lift/lowering blocks (from Pep Boys) between the spring and axle. The problem was I had to have specially shaped new longer ’U-bolts’ made at a spring shop.

This lift made the rear of the truck just a little higher than the front but that is desirable because the rear needs more ground clearance than the front. Next I removed the rear bumper for more ground clearance and made a trailer hitch to protect the rear sheet metal.

For another rear end the best option is a salvage yard for a 4x4 and remember… spring under on 2wd and spring over on the 4x4s

So look at your rear end first… and the one under the truck… Don S..

Alrighty! I threw on some big a** tires on the truck... only 8 in rims. They are General Grabber AT/s from my god brothers Nissan X-Terra that he sold with new tires and rims, so he kept the stock tires and rims and sold them to me. $200.00 for all four. A fraction less that half tread left, pretty good deal to me! My wind/bug deflector should be in at autozone by the 20th and sometime in the near future... May/June im installing a leveling kit. Im also doing my brakes soon, probably this weekend. As soon as I figure out how to add pictures i'll show you all.
