I attempted to climb a short somewhat steep 4x4 dirt track.  Nothing too bad so I put it in 4x4 hi but all terrain tires just couldn't quite cut it.  I then put it in 4x4 lo and backed down hill a bit.  I haven't been able to disengage since.  4x4 hi switch position gives flashing 4x4 lo indicator.  2x shows flashing 4 lo indicator.  Reverse doesn't clear it like it always has in the past.  I creeped and crawled home at slow speed but just as I arrived a high pitch alarm came on with the ATP warning light.  What's up with that?
Any suggestion?  Thanks...........

2006, 6yl, auto trans.   The user manual states the ATP is auto transmission park warning light (4x4 model).   When that's on the trans Park position won't function and the transfer case is in neutral.

Try in Neutral switching with foot on brake from low to high.

Right answer!  Many thanks.  After much fiddling and switching and shifting and talking and cussing the brake->nuetral->switch routine cleared it.
