Well hello all. New here and just getting opinions.

I have a 2003 Frontier S/C and have recently lost #2&4 cylinders(60 psi comp)

The truck had a bad exhaust leak out the manifold for way to long I guess cuz I just put a manifold on the pass side and less than a week later lost power and started smokin like a freight train.

Its not like it was an all of a sudden sort of thing cuz it started to have a little mis which prompted me to installing the manifold and puttin another set of plugs in her.

But now shes dead. Time for a reman I guess

How bout spoutin info my way towards a good build.

Figure if I am gonna have the motor out might as well do it right.

Cams, timing gears headers? What stuff have you all found that is good what is expensive trash.  (Hate finding out the hard way that I just bought hundreds of dolars of trash parts, had that experience w/ hooker headers b4)

Thanks for any nfo

It sounds like the head gasket is blown between cyls. 2 and
4. Does it make a knocking type sounds when you rev it up?
Might be easier to replace the head gaskets(do both), than
to replace the engine. My $.02

did a presure then leak down and had the shop i took it to smoke it and its getting in the crankcase and past the exhaust valve on 4&6 so its pretty f-barred but havent got it out and apart yet.  Way I figure it though if there is much machine work and parts involved I am goin towards the reman cuz there is less time(machine shop) and cost is close especially if I need piston and other involved machine work, and I currently only have an 85 f-250 4x4 w/ a 460 and the gas will cost more in a month than a reman (haha like my nissan ever got good mileage:-)  )

Thanks for the thoughts as I will definitely start at pulling it apart to be sure but all early signs point to at least rings and exhaust valves

Gotta get it apart to be sure but I think the nail is in the coffin.

Im really wondering what happened though. Kinda eager to take it apart and find out but da-n is it dissapointing.

Oh well I bought it new and I know the abuse I put it through from snow to mud and everything in between. It was the first brand new vehicle I had ever bought(and still is the only). It has near 180,000 but I know it (as a nissan)should have gone 300,000 oh well it will have life again and hopefully sooner than later

Never heard of a "SMOKE" test on an engine! Compression
test, leak down test, but never a smoke test???? Learn
something new everyday.
