My new Frontier came without fog lights. Honestly, if I'd thought about it I would have worked on getting them included in the deal. Under that situation, they probably would've been less expensive.

As it is the dealer wants $275 + tax + $86 installation. Didn't expect them to cost that much! But fog and driving snow are both fairly common here.

Does anyone have advice whether having them installed is worth it?

YES. Worth it. If you are even slightly mechanically
inclined, you can install them yourself. The switch
replaces the existing head lite switch. Remove the existing
bezels, install new bezels and lite assemblies. I believe
in the kit it gives you a website to go to for down load
instructions.

Thanks.
@ lakota: had searched "fog lights" and found quite a few threads but mostly quite dated. Due to my own lack of knowledge - I was blindsided by the death of my Tacoma and hadn't been keeping up with other pickup trucks - I wouldn't know whether fog light installation in '05-'09 (roughly) is the same as fog light installation on my '12 with its apparently plastic front bumper. For example, I wouldn't know whether the Nissan part is still the same.

@ frontierguy: Thanks, wondered that too. Also I have an excellent 3-generation local garage where labor rates are decent. But those guys thought the installation involves the steering column and such unfriendly tasks as disabling airbags, etc. (Oh for the days of my simple but less-safe VW bugs!) You see, that's another thing that could have changed in a '12. But you're a Nissan tech so should be right up on exactly that kind of thing.

The main thing I'm trying to determine is whether the factory fog lights are worth the $360 (or less if I truly can DIY and acquire from a discounted Nissan source). Frontierguy indicates they are. I didn't have any fog lights before but the '12 has those dimples, power of suggestion.

I did manage to do a complicated install of an aftermarket sound system with CD changer in my Mazda and this sounds far simpler. But baby its cold outside here in the northern woods.

Thanks for any additional opinions of the worth and installation of these OEM fog lights.

The switch is just simply unscrew the covers around the
combination switches(DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE STEERING WHEEL),
release the tabs on the existing switch, slide the new one
in its place. Haven't done any rubber bumper installs, but
as I mentioned, there should be info to go to a website if
instructions are needed.

Am talking to www.factorynissanparts.com in Texas where price is best I've found so far, and a question came up: If I install them myself, do I have to be concerned about aiming them? Or do you suppose they are somehow pre-aimed? The dealership keeps trying to scare me by talking about things that void the vehicle's warranty.

It certainly seems as though the dealership wants a lot for a simple job, and I know they wouldn't discount the price although they quickly offered to do so on some other options.

BTW there does happen to be an interesting parts rebate offer right now through Nissan's Preferred Owner Program.

They are pretty much pre-aimed. Why would it void the
warranty? They would be covered under a parts warranty for
1yr/12K miles like any other part, unlike the basic
3yrs/36K warranty if they were original equipment
installed at the factory.

Because the work would be done by someone who is not a Nissan-trained and approved technician. In my opinion, some of that is designed to get the customer to spend maintenance dollars at the dealership rather than elsewhere. I suppose to some degree that's understandable as I don't think they can keep the facility open on car sales alone. Around here people keep buying their vehicles at a city 40 miles away but I don't think I could've gotten a better price by going out of town.

Anyway, I explored Nissan's current offer under their "One to One Rewards" program and yesterday wound up buying the fog lights, carpet floor mats and some touch-up paint and with the way that program works even though I am having to pay $85 for their tech to install (which amount seems ridiculous for a simple install), I did better than I could on any of the Internet sites that sell genuine Nissan parts. And I suppose I am saved the hassle of the installation although I like those challenges and the feeling of accomplishment. And in this case, the dealership gets to make some money on my purchases because the discount money comes from Nissan Corp.

So thanks for help. In the end I decided fog lights will be a big help for my aging eyes as I far too often drive to a rehearsal or performance and then face bad visibility conditions going home.

They are most likely charging 1 hour labor for the install assuming the labor rate is $85/hr., which is very fair.

I installed a set on my 07 Frontier. They were factory lights with an aftermarket harness. This appealed to me because I wanted to be able to run the fog lights with their own switch, and not through the headlight switch. Got them off e.bay. Cutting the round filler pieces on the bumper was the hardest part. Used an awl to scratch through the plastic to avoid a sloppy cut. Cost was around $100.00
