What is the concern with the engine that you need to remove
the upper oil pan? Is the engine still in the vehicle?
There are bolts that secure the trans to the engine that
may go into the oil pan assy as well. The sealer that is
used from the factory is very good and sometimes difficult
to "break" the seal.

Yeah I took out the two that go from bellhousing into the pan and I
think I'm just running into the latter (gasket glue). Engine has
developed a slight knock/rapping on the lower side checking out the
rod bearings. Previous owner neglected the ole gal.
