Truck started overheating last summer. Replaced thermostat and flushed system out. Coolant was not in best of shape. ( truck had 150k miles) The old thermostat would not open fully when put in boiling water. Problem solved. This summer overheating has returned. Both times I have been able to turn heater on full blast and get the temp to come down. Fan clutch seems ok? Fan is somewhat hard to turn with engine off, belts are tight. So I replaced the thermostat again (166k miles). Before replacing I tested new and old thermostats (180F). Both are opening and closing good when I put in hot water. Made sure "giggle pin" on thermostat was up when installed and removed "bleed screw" when I filled radiator up. No fluid ever came out bleed screw?. Truck is still overheating and can be cooled down by turning on heat full blast. Is trapped air the problem?? If so, what is best way to bleed it off? Radiator plugged? Looking down into neck of radiator looks good and clean, but this is like looking at 1 tree in a 1 mile forrest. . Hoses seem firm and in good shape. Hose from thermostat housing goes to bottom of radiator . I guess this is the nissan way. How much is new radiator? Truck has several other issues with vibration and tires. Local shop says I should replace water pump and timing belt (original) for $800-1000. Beginning to wonder if truck is worth putting that much into it.
ps. The truck does not seem to overheat at idle. just at highway speeds and when stuck in traffic during +70 degree days.

With the bleed screw out, stick a small punch or similar
object into the hole, sometimes sludge will form in the
bottom of the hole. Yes on the timing belt, you are living
on borrowed time! You may want to remove the radiator and
clean the fins from the back side forward with a garden
hose or air hose, lots of dirt accumulates in the fins over
time.
