I recently picked up a 2006 crew cab, I've had it a couple
of weeks now and the engine light turned on. The shop told
me the code indicated the catalytic converter. The truck
has 87,000 miles on it, warranty indicates coverage to
80,000 and the local Nissan dealer said they won't do any
"good will" coverage on this. In the short term the mech
shop said they reset the engine light and to monitor to see
if it comes back on again. Are there any options here? or
do I really have to buy a catalytic converter after owning
the truck for two weeks.

More than likely it will need one. Make sure it has a
genuine Nissan oil impregnated air filter in it. Might want
to clean and tighten all the engine grounds. Did you buy it
from an individual, used vehicle dealer? Seems like the
seller should be responsible for the repair.

aha! I recently put in a low cost air filter, did that cause the converter sensor to go haywire? BTW, I bought the truck from a dealer that goes out to the car auctions to pick up what you want. I think we both got blind-sided by this, He offered to pay half of the part and install it for free. I would buy again from him, he is very honest at what he does.

It usually takes awhile for the after market air filters to
pass enough dirt through to damage a MAFS.
