I have a 2005 Frontier 4x4, extended cab.  I decided to have the transmission serviced last week.  I was told that it only needed to have the fluid drained and replaced because there isn't a regular filter inside, only a screen.

However, I see that parts dealers sell transmission filter kits (gasket and filter) for the 2005 Frontier.  So I am curious, do I need to change the filter, if not, why are these kits marketed?

It is a metal screen that can be cleaned with brake cleaner
w/o removing it.

Thanks for the response  --so why are the "filter kits" sold?  Are they just a rip off?

After market will sell you anything. On some of the models
there is a nut on top of the valve body that falls out when
removing the bolts for the screen. The only way to re-
install it, is to remove the valve body assy.
