If anone has any ideas id appreciate them>?

2007 nissan frontier nismo 4x4

bought used from dealership in winnipeg not a nissan dealership

i live 6 plus hours away from nearest nissan dealership (one way) and last time i went to one they sent me home with a new battery truck ran fine... for a while!

i drive the truck every day

the truck will not start occasionally

i dunno where to go from here pretty frustrated i got rid of an old unreliable vehicle for this truck paid like 20 thousand for this peice! i wanted a reliable truck but this frontier seems to have a mind of its own!!!

and live 45 mins from work i live in middle of knowhere not in the city so when i get stranded it sux. so new battery, new fuel pump, new fuel level sending unit

i have checked: every one of the small black supposedly non servicable non replaceable relays in the ipdm e/r  including ecu and ignition and starter relays they all check and work good when i check them with 12 volts and a multimeter.

I have not checked the bigger relays in the other box under the hood i cant figure out how to get them out they do appear to sorta have a loose slack fit.

first thought fuel pump was shot ....got it replaced

then thought maybe i had a bad relay or idpm board.... checked all relays they seem fine

then i thought somthing was draining down battery becuze after not starting the truck started right up with a boost. so i started disconnecting my neg. cable from battery when i would let vehicle sit. and after that it seemed to start every time........ up until today!! after work real cold minus 30 celsius it wouldnt start. also i talked to a tech on the phone and he thinks my draw in milliamps that i measured with the vehicle "off and asleep" was normal and would not drain down my battery unless i didnt drive truck for a reaaaaal long time like maybe months. So i got someone to give me a boost (like i said because that got me started last time this happened to me like a month ago before i started disconnect. battery term.) no luck. it turned over just as it did on its own without boost seems like a fast strong turn but will not fire up at all. then waited maybe 3 minutes 4 minutes and tryed again and a little spuuter and it started up but it was not a normal fire up.

99 percent of the time my trucks starts up and runs great but usually seems like everyonce in a while no pattern reelie just randow does seem maybe affetcted by sit time and temperature. but the one thing i have noticed is that it will never not start if i have just shut the truck off it mite be a coinsedence but i dont thi8nk so.   like after i got it going today and drove for 5 mins i shut it off and tryed to start it again and it started rite upno prob.     plz help anyone if u have similiar prob!

Hopefully, Frontierguy will weigh in on this.  Sounds like a spark or fueling issue (duh).  Is it possible that there is some crud in the tank that is clogging the in-tank filter?  Ice?  Are you using fuel containing ethanol?  If not, run some isopropanol dry gas through the system.  At -30C, any moisture is going to FREEZE.

I have an 05 and had a similar problem.....truck would *occasionally* turn over fine but not start.  Happened about 6 months after I bouhgt the truck, and again about a month after that.  It's been a year and a bit since it last happened.  There is a recall out fopr an ignition or starter relay for our trucks I believe.  I haven't had mine replaced yet.

Have you rectified this problem yet? Are you using a
Genuine Nissan oil impregnated air filter? Have you checked
for good grounds at the drivers side timing chain
cover(should be 2- (10 mm size socket to tighten). Using
the correct viscosity oil(hopefully full synthetic)?? When
the battery was replaced, did the dealer perform the Idle
Air volume relearn???? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!

What is this Air Volume Relearn of which you write?  I've had my battery disconnected several times to clean the posts and have never heard of this before.

Just what it says: it relearns the idle to the correct RPM.
This is usually required after any disconnect. There is a bulletin that states if the idle RPM is 25 RPM too high,
the check engine light will come on.

Is this the procoedure for the idle air relearn?

1) Drive the car to "warm up" temperature. Make sure your idle is close to 700 rpm.
2) Ensure any battery draining devices are off. Ie. headlights, interior dome lights, HVAC, stereo.
3) Turn the car ignition key to "OFF"
4) Wait ten seconds
5) Turn the key to "ON" (not start)
6) Wait three seconds.
7) Perform the following five times in five seconds or less. Fully press the gas pedal and release.
8) Wait seven seconds from last of the five releases.
9) Fully press the gas pedal and hold down. Within ten seconds the "Service Engine Soon" light should begin to blink.
10) Wait another ten seconds (while still holding the gas pedal) and the "Service Engine Soon" light should stop blinking.
11) As soon as it stops blinking, release the pedal, start the car and check the idle (should still be around 700 rpm)
12) Let the car idle at 700 rpm or so for about 25 seconds, rev the engine a few times and then let it return to idle.
13) Shut the car down.

YES. For me it is so much easier with the Consult 2 scan
tool.

Frontier Guy, can't you just put a memory saver in the cigarette lighter to hold all of the settings??
