I did a search and didn't find much on this so I thought I'd ask and see what I got. It seems as though people with Fronty's with S/C's on them are few and far between and even further are the people who've really tinkered with them. A google search on the underdrive S/C pulley yeilds all of about 4 useful results and none that bear any info on what I'm looking for. I've got a 2004 Frontier S/C, and after relocating the KS and experiencing good results with that, I decided that now would be a good time to install the pulley boys 2.4 quickchange pulley I've had sitting around for years it and see if that would really get her cooking. Pulley change went over w/o any drama, the whole process took all of an hour to get the old one off and install the new pretty pulley. Took her out, and immediately noticed a significant difference. At 5500 rpm under WOT, the blower was making 12lbs boost where before the swap it would peak at 9lbs. Shaved almost a full second off the 0-60 trip and just had more pep in her step. Unfortunately, my excitement was short lived when I started listening carefully to the engine, and heard her pinging and knocking pretty bad. Clearly then, the extra 3lbs is causing detonation and decided before I cooked another cat at $700 a pop, I had better park it. Ordered up the stock size quick change pulley from the boys and are currently awaiting arrival of said pulley. However, after talking to one of my mechanics (I'm a shop foreman), he suggested running a colder spark plug to beat down the detonation. I had been cooking up ideas of how to squeeze a liquid to air intercooler in between the blower and the plenum, insisting that there was a way to make this pulley work so that I could actually harness the extra ponies it had made. What I've taken the long way around the bush to ask here is, has anyone had any luck running a colder plug after experiencing detonation with the S/C underdrive pulley? I was able to get a set of colder plugs (instead of the stock NGK BKR5EGP, just slip a 6 in the 5 spot and that is one heat range colder, which took an eternity to unlock that mystery...) but before I put them in and have the same thing happen, I'm wondering if anyone out there has tried this and had good/bad results??? Help! And thanks in advance!

Here is a dumb question, are you using hi-test gas? If the
knock sensor is functioning correctly, it retards the
timing in the event of spark knock to prevent engine
damage.
