I have a 2004 frontier 3.3L.  Couple of days ago the engine overheated.  I replaced the thermostat and it solved the overheating problem.  Then I took it in to AutoZone to clear the code.  They saw the overheat code and told me there was a knock sensor code.  From what I've read on the forum so far, the knock sensor isn't that critical.  I had no service light before it overheated.  So, should I concern myself with the light?

The knock sensor will not turn on the check engine lite. It
won't function correctly by retarding the timing in the
event of engine spark knock. So it is your call as to
replace or not.

If you have a code for a knock sensor, most likely it needs
one, or a rodent chewed your harness. If it set a code it
isn't functioning correctly. Your call.

On the older 4 cyl models (Altima), I have moved them. But
on the V-6 it is under the intake, so unless you buy a
harness or are able to disconnect it, you have to remove
the intake.

They were buying a older maxima harness and knock sensor
and splicing the wires in at the plug by the valve cover
and mounting it to the intake. It looks fairly simple but
when they get into ohms and all of that it goes over my
head
