Hello all, I'm sure this question has already been raised and if so I apologize for reiterating it. Basically everytime I start my 02 Frontier XE 3.3 V6 there is a very audible ticking noise coming from the engine. It sounds like oil isn't getting circulated fast enough because the noise goes away after about 25 seconds (longest that it takes, sometimes it goes away in 5 seconds). I have tired so many oils with no success or diminishing of the sound. I currently use 10w-30 synthetic which I have used since purchase. I tired 5w-30 thinking a lighter weight would circulate more efficiently in cold temperatures, and it doesn't make a difference. There is no oil leaks, it doesn't burn oil, and no maintenance lights are on concerning oil or the engine. The truck runs mint other then the ticking which really worries me. It just started also about 5K miles ago. Any help or direction on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I like the truck but that noise is making me want to sell it. Please help, thank you.

The Cast iron 401 V-8 in my Wagonneer had a ticking sound when starting it. It was the exhaust manifold. The ticking went away quickly when the engine got warm.

What lakota said, very possible. Have you had someone start it while listening under the hood to try and isolate the source???? Sometime an ex manifold stud can be loose and create this concern.

So the truck is officially possessed. I appreciate the input and I haven't tried that yet, but there is a problem or not really a problem I guess. The temperature today finally reached 60ºF and I went out and started the truck and the noise isn't there. I don't know if this sheds extra light on the situation but I'll still give your advice I try. Thank you.

I have the same issue with my 03. The oil is not making it to the top half of the motor quick enough (it takes the oil pump a few seconds to push the oil to the top half of the motor). Somedays it's worse than others. I also use 10 / 30 in mine and have never tried anything else. I was wondering if there was an upgraded oil pump that could be used or something along those lines.

I have heard and seen for myself that Marvel Mystery oil solves many engine noises, I have personally heard my lifter noise go away in my old ford V8.
Funny thing it says to add like a table spoon of it to your engine, and I was like whatever, but it did the trick.
