In the 20 years prior to my Frontier ownership I have encountered 2 flat tires. In the last 16 months of owning my truck, I have gotten 3 flats. Could it be the the BFG are prone to screw and nail pokes? What gives?
There has been no change to my commute in the last 9 years, no new construction zones or anything like that. I do notice these tires have crevices that fill up with pebbles and the like, and I rotate them every 5000 miles and also pry out the pebbles each rotation.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have taken my Goodrich Long Trails on almost 300 miles of rough gravel at 50 mph during a Canadian hunting trip.....NO problems!  I have taken them into fields during pheasant hunting and into really rough trails in the woods in deer season...again no problems.  The truck has run fro Lancaster, PA to Savannah, Ga and from Lancaster to 150 miles north of St. Ludger de Milot in Quebec Province with no issues.  I have 27,000 miles on them and should get at least 20,000 more judging by the tread.   I have no complaints, only good things to say about these tires.

My dad just bought a new jeep with bfg MTs they were quieter than my long trails. I just have come to beleave that not all bfgs are bad but there QC could be better. The long trails only lasted 12,000mi on my truck but I was towing and hauling some weight when I first bought my truck.

I have also hauled a 900 pound (or thereabouts) with a large skid under it to central PA on these tires.  I had no issue with them going that distance at 60+ mph over mountains.  Seems to me that a lot of complaints about these lasting 12,000 miles that you see on tire reviews are from abuse (smoking the tires, running grossly underinflated, exceeding the weight limit, etc).  If you want to tow and haul, then use an LT tire that is designed for it.  Not a criticism, just an observation.  I have never had a set of BF Goodrich tires that gave me anything less than optimum performance and I have used their tires for over twenty five years.

Yes, I keep my Long Trails properly inflated, I keep my speed at or below 65 mph, I don't run them at their load limit, I have them rotated every 7-8000 miles  and I keep the front end aligned. .  That, to me, is the secret to long tire life.

Has anyone found a good tire protectant that will preserve the raised white letters?

I have used Armor All extreme tire shine gel, and it worked great on the black parts but not the white letters.

David, be careful of tire protectants such as Armor All.  They can pull the antioxidants out of the rubber and cause premature sidewall cracking.  Some tire manufacturers will check for this stuff in the rubber if you go back in with cracks and ask for a refund or new tires.

Best thing is to clean the tires and raised letters with Wesley's BeachWhite and let them dry.  The white letters will be as good as you are going to get and no real damage to the tire.
