I'm having trouble with my 99 Nissan Frontier stalling out at random
times. In the past 4 months I had to have the Speedometer repaired and
my mechanic replaced the Idle Air Control valve.
For about a month after replacing the ACV, the idle would pulse from 1-
2000rpms at idle and would intermittently drop below 1000rpms and
stall out or I could tap the gas to push it back up to above 1000.
Then as I was turning a corner with the clutch down it stalled out
completely (note all separate instances). I each time it stalled the Check
engine light did not stay lit. Got it home after 3 restarts, drove fine the
next day. Could not get an appt for several days - so it drove without
problem and I got it to a Nissan dealer. They found nothing wrong and
could not reproduce hence they could not resolve.
Have now driven it for a whole week with out issue however, this
weekend was on the highway doing 70 and it just shuts down ( no action
from me, - clutch or downshift). Was able to pull off the road wait a
minute and then restart. Got home (10 miles or so) without issue again.
I have lost confidence in driving the car on the highway ( I commute 44
miles roundtrip highway).
I myself am not a mechanic and would appreciate any advice.

I had a similiar problem, turned out it was the MAS Mass airflow sensor, only that it was fine until highway speeds then it would cut out. I had no idling issues though.
The dealer should have been able to obtain the check engine light trouble codes, since they are stored in the computer, and they also should have reset the computer.

Was the idle air control valve ever tested? I remember testing it on my VG 3.0 engine by squeezing a hose and watching the idle falter. Why was the valve changed to begin with? What were the symptoms that started all these repairs?

Sorry nube on the board
Yes- 2wd, XE King
Manual- yes
I don't believe its a genuine Nissan air filter, at best recall replaced by Jiffy
Lube year ago.
IACV- Car actually had error on stall out this time- and was diagnosed as
the valve. However, issue as existed since then.
Thank you for your replies.

Get a Nissan air filter, look down the hole for the MAFS fine wires, see if any debris is in there and clean with some spray cleaner. May need to go to dealer for idle adjustment or to someone who can do it w/o the Consult scan tool. Also check your dist cap for dirt/moisture intrusion, there is a TSB(NTB00-086) for new style dist( expensive-cheaper to just replace cap and rotor once in awhile w/ Genuine Nissan parts.)< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
