My 2000 SE is running like crap, it starts fine but, after only a few minuets it will start to idel up and down and will start sputtering and loose power and it is smoking from exhaust .

I hve changed the following parts and still can not find the problem.

Fuel filter, cat cnverter,C02 censor, mas air flow censor and I have taken it to a mechanic while it was acting up and he ran it on a scan for 2 hours and it did not show any codes, he started the truck the following day and it ran like a champ for 2 days then did the same thing again.

When you say that the parts were changed, are they new, used, aftermarket, genuine Nissan????? Check to see if any moisture has gotten into the ECU-you will see corrosion on the exterior of the ECU. Clean and tighten all engine grounds including the main ground from the battery. Remove the dist cap -rotor-inspection plate- see if dist bearing is coming apart. May have a distributor electrical failure also.

Hey Frontierguy

I checked everything you listed and all checked out ok but,  now the truck will not start at all now seems like it is not getting fire? To answer your queston about the parts they are after market. Any other ideas?

You might check for water in the oil or oil in the water. It could be a head
gasket. Are you getting any spark? What about your air cleaner I had one
filled with mud one time and just my luck it was the last thing I checked
LMAO.. Good luck............

Have you had the fuel sender recall done??? Check the basics-fuel-spark -compression. And get rid of the aftermarket parts!!!!!

Hello,

I seem to have a similar problem, right before Christmas, I blew a head gasket on my 2000 V6 Frontier. (200K miles)  It did not warped the heads, as it was not cause by over heating. Took it to a repair shop and they replaced the head gaskets, and put it together. It drove just fine for the first day, then the “Check Engine” light came out.  I took it to a parts store to do some diagnostics, and see if they could give me an idea as to what might be the cause.

#5 plug was misfiring.

and/or

The driver side oxygen sensor.

and/or

The knock sensor.

They suggested to replace #5 plug and see what happens……

Replaced the spark plug, and all of the spark plug wires too, going out on a limb, I dumped some Chevron fuel injector cleaner as well.

Now the engine will run ok some times, and other times it runs like it is running on 5 cylinders, it feels like instead of driving on a paved road I am driving over a pebbled street, or a flat tire, with the brakes on. The Engine light will start to blink. Then, without any rhyme or reason, it will smooth out, and I can tell, because, there is a surge in power, like the brakes are disengaged. Not too much, but enough to let you know that things are somewhat normal. The engine light will remain just steady on, all of a sudden, it will start to cough up all over again.

It will start up, with no problems, but, once that it starts to go down the road, then the adventure begins.

If anyone have any ideas, suggestions or advise, please, they are more than welcome.

Thank you

SionisPrioratus

IF they haven't ever been replaced, I would suggest GENUINE NISSAN plug wires, dist cap and rotor. Are the plugs NGK???< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
