I have not owned a truck in 30 years (1972 Chevy LUV) but I decided to buy a used truck a few months ago. I was looking for a Nissan due to all the good things I have heard about the brand.
After looking a while, I found an 02 XE, Auto, Tinted glass, bed cover. I purchased the truck from a retiree who had only 36 K on it. The car fax indicated it had been purchased, inspected and serviced all in the same town and was a one owner. The truck looks new. It was garage kept. It was used a a personal car and as far as I can tell never used to haul or tow anything. The bed liner has zero wear.
I offered the old guy 8000 even and he accepted it. What kind of deel did I get and what kind of service can I expect from the truck?

That older 2.4 L engine is practically bulletproof, it should last a very long time, but they ARE sluggish with an automatic transmission, it'll be exciting to pull onto an expressway with it........
They get pretty good mileage, with a 5 speed, mine got 25MPG up and down big hills, hauling a LOT of weight, on a trip to South Dakota, but it wouldn't keep up with traffic with the weight, and the A/C on, which is why I replaced it with a 6 cylinder when I got my 2007 SE. (I haul a LOT of ammo on my prairie dog shooting trips.) It sounds like you got a fair deal, not a smoking deal, and the truck will, with reasonable care, probably outlast you. They are really good little trucks.
BTW, with all the extra weight, I was able to drive anywhere I wanted, it crawled a lot of big hills, in wet grass, without spinning a tire, and going around 4x4s that had gotten stuck in the same places. The lack of power was a GOOD thing in those situations, I was able to keep right on going when others sat and spun all four tires. The only reason I traded trucks, was that I spend more time on the highway than off the highway, and I wanted a little more goose when I stepped on the gas. And, I didn't want to get run down by semis when going UPHILL. aYou'll have to watch for that, especially with an automatic transmission in the XE.

Thanks for the reply. I live in North Texas where there are practically no hills and the gas mileage thus far is good. 22 in town and 27 highway. I do only casual hauling and really wanted an old truck just to have around. I also use the vehicle primarly just to get around. I have heard stories about the 2.4 4 Cyl doing 300,000 miles plus without any major repairs. Thus far the truck has been solid.

Sounds like he got a great deal based on KBB value, but then again, how often do you find an exceptionally clean 7 yr old truck?

This truck was so clean it looks like it came from a twilight zone episode. There is not a dent or scratch on it. I own 2 Toyotas, 1 Honda and 1 Nissan and seleted them all based on reliability and durability along with low maint.
