I figured I'd kick up a little dust here.  I now have 16,000 miles on the 2007 Fronty $X$.  It has been on two long hunting trips totalling 2500 miles and has seen lots of local driving.  I have the Goodrich Long Trail tires.  To my amazement, I looked at the tread yesterday and the tires still look almost new!  I must have at least 75-80% of the tread left.  In snow with 4 wheel drive, they took me anywhere I wanted to go on the road for two winters.  They are quiet and give me good gas mileage.

So I have to give these tires a thumbs up.  I'll seriously consider another set at replacement time if the wear continues like this.

..

I suppose the tread threads and rubber compounds can change from year to year but the name and tire sizes remain the same. The factory BFG Long Trails on my ’99 Frontier lost their wet pavement traction at five years. I hit the brakes and the truck goes faster! The Long Trails are now on a friends Car hauler and giving good service.

The Long Trails are shown on icy mountain tops in the DVD I have for sale.

… I bought BFG All Terrain KO 31x10.50x15s and at five years old they are still pretty good in wet weather.

EDIT:  I forgot to add that there was nearly zero tread wear on the Long Trails at 30,000 miles even with a lot of Mountain rock crawling.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

I have to admit so far my BFG long trails are working out nicely. I only have 8000 miles on the and they look just as good as the spare (brand new tire).
I have been in snow, did 120 miles in 4X4 no uneven wear, I have rotated them once at 5000 miles.
They are quiet and so far no issues with rain..
I have seen some websites where people rate them as the best and have gotten over 100K (miles) on them...

Question for you guys with the 265/70R16 longtrails:  What PSI do you keep them at?  I just got an 09 Frontier king cab 4x4 a few days ago and they were all at 46!  Talk about a bumpy ride home.. The sidewall says max psi is 35, but right around 40 seems to be pretty good.

I had these on my old truck.  Due to the wet traction when they get older (about 50% worn) and the white lettering that's impossible to keep clean, I swore I'd never have another set.  They did wear very slowly though and work pretty good in snow.

I keep them between 35-40, with a bit higher in the front.

Juysat an update.  I now have 18260 on the Long Trails which is only a couple thousand miles since my post about 3.5 months ago.  But still looking good.  They handle well, ride wellare wearing very evenly with just one rotation about 9000 miles ago.

Note that the tire experts say 4-5 yrs is the life of a tire after that it's OLD regardless of tread depth.

Lakota, your long trails lost traction for a reason. They're way past prime.

Nothing stays on my vehicles past 4 years of the build date on the side wall.

Hugh

Changed mine out a few months ago on my 07 due to inspection, 49,000 miles, could have gotten another 3 or 4,000 maybe, rotated every 7,000. Great tire but wanted something more aggressive, went to General AT2's, have almost 8,000 on them, very happy with them as well but they don't corner like the Long Trails with my heavy foot.

This is my second vehicle with long trails and i love them. The last set one of them got killed on a rock. Ripped the side wall down to the cables and still held air. Took it to the tire shop and when they removed it it had 4 nail inside. They are a softer tire though so they do lose their wet traction after awhile. As far as waring out i think a lot of it is road compounds. They seamed to last a lot longer in cali than they do here in colorado.
