I have a 2000 Nissan King Cab with the 2.4. I'm having trouble finding a reasonably priced air intake. K&N makes a great one for the 6 cyliner, but nothing for my 4. I'm running a drop in K&N filter but I want the minimal increase in power from the intake along with the respect a deeper sound will get. Can I make one without making it run lean? Am I better off buying one and paying more? I've heard from a Nissan buddy that a hardbody intake should work, but I'm skeptical. I just want a short pipe intake with a cone filter. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

www.4x4parts.com has the intake you're looking for.  The main reason behind most companies not making anything is the airbox design.

K+N flows a lot of air, the down side is, they don't filter all the dirt. Do a search on K+N testing.

I'm not a big fan of K&N because of their over oiling of the filters.  I stick with AEM.

Though I must say I had the K&N drop in for 3 years in my KA and never had one problem.

Thanks for the info! I found one from Performer on 4x4parts but $310 is a bit steep for me. Any luck making one? Or am I asking for trouble? Thanks again!

$310 matches and beats some of the intakes out there for other vehicles.

In making one, you'd either need to match the box form used, or fab up a pipe that would match the opening, and allow you to bolt on and such.  At $310, I'd grab one in a heartbeat.

Well, I bought a universal kit from AEM I think. Check out my Gallery. It was around $60. The filter was crappy, so I replaced it with a better one from Spectre. I did it my self, and it was kind of a pain connecting the vacuum hoses so that they don't leak. But it definately works, and its loud and not $300.

I'm going to look into getting a local fab shop to bend me some steel tubing to get rid of the black hose.

I been having it like this for 2 years and about 50000 miles, so I'd say its pretty good for $60.
