Anyone else following this? There are currently 3 Nissans in the top 10 overall at the end of Stage 10. Stage 11 is today and it has been canceled due to fog. Ivan Erik Tollefsen of Norway (#327) is in 6th overall and Krzysztof Holowczyc of Poland (#317) is 7th overall. There's a 4+ hour time gap to 5th place and a 2+ hour gap to 8th so it looks like this is where they will they will finish barring any major problems.

This has to be the coolest Nissan on the planet. There are 3 pages of photos of it. However this site does not seem to have any photos of Ivan Erik Tollefsen. Enjoy.

On tonights update on Versus, it said the stage was delayed due to fog, maybe that was actually yesterday????? Time delay ??? It's really neat seeing them do so well.

Hey Frontierguy, I'm a KTM man myself! Yesterday's coverage of stage 10 on Versus had some great video of the Nissans in the Atacama dunes. I hope some of the forum guys got to see that. I've been watching online clips from http://www.sbs.com.au/dakar2009/ as well as Vs. The SBS site has commentary from Toby Moody who is world's better than the guy on Vs. I was hoping that Stage 10 on SBS would have the footage of the Nissans but it doesn't.
Also, overall leader in the car category, Carlos Sainz is out of the rally at Stage 12, putting Mark Miller (USA) into first place!!! We could have our first Dakar winner from the USA. Robbie Gordon is also looking at a possible podium!

Stage 13 - I may be giving this info prematurely since all the cars are not in yet but the Nissans are now 4th and 5th overall. Mark Miller (VW) is in second only 2:20 back and Robbie Gordon (Hummer) is in 3rd. The 3 remaining VWs all drove together today and I fear that there might be team orders that VW wants DeVilliers to win.

Beez, how about those "TEAM" orders???? Could you imagine performing better than the #1 guy, then having to pull over and wait!!!! That would suck. What and where do you ride? I just picked up an 09 200XC-W last night. I ride the WNYOA harescramble series in upstate NY - super Senior B class (old farts).
Pulling for Robbie Gordon to finish well in that 2WD Hummer. Sad to see Jonah Street drop out.

The team orders stunk! Does VW really sell more cars in South America than the USA? Strange.
I have a '97 KTM 620 RXC and an '05 BMW R1200GS. I've had several dirtbikes in the past most of which were KTMs (before they were orange). I'm currently jonesing for another real dirtbike but at the moment it will have to wait. I mostly do dual-sport rides or just trailride but I've raced in the past and would like to in the future.

2010 Dakar news.
Yesterday was stage 9 and the top Nissan, Holowczyc from Poland who finished last year's Dakar in 5th overall and was in 6th overall in this year's rally, is out due to a broken driveshaft and some really bad luck.
From the Dakar website:
"308 - Holowczyc in troubleExcellently
placed 6th in the general standings at the start of the 9th special
this morning, Krzysztof Holowczyc (Nissan) will not be able to
reproduce his splendid top 5 finish of last year. The Polish driver has
broken his rear axle and has left the special to try and repair it at
the 68-km point, without success for the moment. As if that wasn’t bad
enough, his assistance team passed by without seeing him and is
currently around the 100-km mark of the special stage…"
The other Nissan Navarras (Frontiers) did not fare that well either. Mironenko (RUS), Lavieille (FRA) and Alfie Cox (South Africa) are also out. I'll try and post up some photos or links to photo galleries.
