Hey everyone hadnt been around in a while but i got a question for everyone about my wheels. I painted them black last summer and they are now beginning to chip a bit. One of them is really bad but the others are perfect. I chipped a bit on the trails but not too bad. I tried using a pressure washer to just take the wheels back to metal but it didnt work so well. does anyone know any fluids i could maybe use to help remove the paint from the wheels. thanks everyone. I was planning on taking the wheels back to chrome finish til summer rolls back around

Are they steel?  Depends on what type of metal.  I would inquire at any local body shop and they should tell you what you can use and also how to without getting any of it on the actual tire.  Paint does not hurt the tire, but the stuff to remove paint my degrade the rubber prematurely.

I second that, 2001FrontierXE; solvents will degrade rubber.  So be careful.  Also be careful with use and disposal.

I work in the coatings industry.  There are many solvents that would be able to remove/strip paint (e.g., xylene, MEK, acetone).  These, however, aren't readily available to the general public to use.  Ironically enough, I'm not familiar with products available to consumers to remove paint.  If you can find a good answer here, try asking a autobody/paint shop.

Did you paint alloy rims black?  What did you use?

I used a high temp caliper paint. When i painted them i cleaned them up took all grease off of them and painted in three coats. I like the look i just dont like a half painted wheel thats chipped up ill prolly end up painting them again but ill wait til it gets warmer to apply paint
