I have a 2003 Frontier with VG33E. It idles about 1200 and when decellerating it "catches" coming down through 1500-2000rpm and stays about 1200. Any ideas or can you advise procedure for adjusting the idle WITHOUT using a Consult from the dealer....???

Thanks!!

I had this happen in an old dodge D50, check your anti-freeze, make sure it's still there, also, does the temp guage go up? I don't think your idle would go up abnormally, but then again I'm not a mechanic. Good luck!

Yeah, antifreeze good...just changed it and the hoses...including the throttle body coolant hoses (which were leaking). Temps are good, have been.....I cleaned the throttle body...maybe gunked up the IAC valve.......but I don't see how.

Are you sure you got all the air bled out of the coolant system??? There is a procedure to adjust idle w/o consult, but I can't remember step by step due to the fact that I use Consult. I won't be back to the shop till mon. I'll check back to see if you still need help.

Iwould appreciate any help you can give....coolant full.....bled out without problems....It just idles about 1200 and "catches" after accelerating around 1500-2000. I saw somewhere that there is an idle speed screw....but I can't find it.

Have you cleaned the throttle blade and bore??
To adjust the idle, the eng needs to be warmed up, shut off, disconnect the TPS connector(lower one of the two), restart eng, rev several times, adjust idle to 700 +or - 50 RPM. The adjusting screw is on the back side of the throttle chamber - you can get to it w/ a short(3 in) flat blade screw driver, shut off eng, reconnect TPS , check idle speed.
Are you using a genuine Nissan air filter???

My truck Had a similer problem,  I dissregarded it and about a week later the MAF went out.  It kept jumping RPM's.  Finally i was headed to the Local Fish Store when it started Ideling High and the check engine light poped.  It still started but kept loosing power and shutting off.  Long story short i went to napa orderd a new one and replaced it.  It was about $175 vs the $800 that firestone wanted to charge me.  I dont know if that might be your problem but it is worth a shot to check it out.
