Hi, I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier SE 4x4. I am having trouble with the speedometer dropping to zero every so often. I could be driving down the road with the cruise set and suddenly, all at once, the speedometer drops to zero, the cruise kicks off, the 4x4 light comes on, and the odometer stays visible but the mileage will not change. All of the back lights to the guages remain working while this happens. It may happen once every 100 miles (for example, not exact) or sometimes it will drop out and come back withing a few seconds, minutes etc. Sort of bouncing back and forth. Awesome truck, but when I am cruising at 75 on the interstate, and this happens, the only way to tell how fast I am going is to estimate off of the tachometer. Can someone please help me with this problem? Thank you. Jon

I've had that prob. with my 98' Dodge Dakota it was the speed sensor in the rear end housing and it was magnentized so all the metal shavings were covering it so it couldn't get a reading    i also have a 2005 Nissan Frontier Nismo and i was up under it the other day and i think on these trucks the speed sensor is on the front two wheels i'm not sure if there magnentized or not but i'd check the front two wheels and the rear end

Adam, thanks for taking the time to share your advice. I think you are correct, the only thing I don't know is if it is the main vehicle speed sensor(from what I understand there is a main speed sensor that exists) or an ABS speed sensor on one or each of the front wheels. I looked at it again last night and the ABS, BRAKE, and 4x4 lights come on at the same time the speedometer needle drops to zero. And if the cruise is on at the same time it will kick it off. So, I guess I will try the ABS, front wheel speed sensors...just don't know how to tell if they are bad without a diagnostics hookup...thanks again!
