I have a 2004 Frontier, 37K miles and out od warrenty. It has been hot here in GA. In the afternoons, when the A/C compressor kicks in at hwy speeds, I hear a "chirp" like the belt slips as the compressor starts to turn.

What to do if anything?

I would have to say it is the belt slipping, even though it's only 37K.

I have 180K miles on my 04 take it from me - when you replace the belts, replace them all at the same time and use NISSAN belts.  Made a mistake once going to pep boys for belt change.

Thnaks for the info.

I thought it odd that at 37K (now 40K) it needs a belt, but stuff happens, I suppose.

A tip on a squeaky belt.  The belt may be fine but getting just s bit hard on the rib surface.  Take a few SMALL dabs of SILICONE grease (not oil-based grease) and spread them across the ribs with the engine OFF.  Then run the truck.  This will quiet belts and will not cause problems with the rubber in the belt.  SIlicone grease is dielectric grease like you put on spark plug boots and is available at any parts store.

Also, DO NOT put the grease on the smooth side of a ribbed belt.  This can cause tensioner slippage.
