First off I wanted to say hello to everyone!  I drive a 2001 4wd Frontier with around 135,000 miles on it.  Yesterday morning the service engine light came on and after reading it I got these two codes

P0325 (which is a knock sensor code) and P1441 (vaccum cut valve bybass valve)

I had them clear the codes and drove on down the road and so far the light has not come back on.  Do you have any suggestions or have you experienced this before with yours?  Thanks!

Zach

Don't quote me... but from my experience if your computer reads a code, you reset it, and it doesn't come back on, it was probably a fluke.  As I understand it, the knock sensor adjusts the engine timing as the vehicle undergoes different environments (towing, driving hard, mountains, etc).  It may have fired off an error once but otherwise has operated normally.  I've had mine do that before.  Just reset the computer and see if it comes back.

If it comes back there's a way to test to see if you have a bad knock sensor.  But I forget what it is.  You have to measure the voltage between something like pin 62 and ground.  I know... a little useless info.  But you don't need to know that just yet.  If the light comes back on, I'll find you the right method to test for a bad knock sensor.

Cheers,

:Isaac:

I also just got two codes today:  P0325 and P0131 (Oxygen sensor).  How do you reset the codes to see if they come back?

One way is to go to your auto parts store and they'll let you use their OBD code reader and you can reset the codes from there.  Another way is to simply disconnect the negative terminal on your batter (not the positive) and let it sit for a little while (a couple minutes should do it).  You can also turn the key to drain any residual juice left in the system.  Then reconnect the battery and you should be golden.
