I need new tires, plain N' simple. I've been poking through the forums here and found some posts asking about tires, but they don't seem to be related to what I need. I have an 02 4x2 (6 cyl) and looking for street tires. I don't tow, go off-road, or drive over 65-70mph. Biggest concern? Getting good MPG (which I'm sure EVERYBODY is concerned about nowadays) with performance/handling and reliability a close second. Price range? I'm figuring around $80 to 100 per tire. I've checked TireRack, but wanted to get some thoughts/input from you guys.

Street tires?  I'd go with a BFGoodrich or a Michelin tire.  The Long Trails that came on my 07 are great on the highway (I'm always biased to Goodrich tires) and I've always used Michelins on my wife's car for many years with great success.  I have achieved 25.5 mpg on interstate driving with my 07 V-6 4X4 Frontier doing 65 mph on the Goodrich tires.

danny here when it comes to tires look out at places at wallmart wo have name brand tire but with a differt nickname ther a lower grade tire I shop walmart and are not basing them cause sears does the same. if money is tight check cooper tires out they are no michelins but the long trail i had just was crap and those coopers should be better than BFG To Boomer the michelins should be your next tire swap when needed I` got a set LTX M/S the ride was night and day and quiet to from those long trails I had. Go cooper tires website and talk to some tire shops to get info

I have some Kelly Chargers on my 04 2.4 2 wheel drive. They seem ok. With the Kellys, the truck seems to want to hydroplane less than the other tires that came with the truck. I don't know where Kelly Chargers fit on the hierarchy of tires, but I think they are pretty good. I got them from, installed, and balanced by the local shop and it came out to about $98/tire.

Private Tire Brands

This list of who makes what "off-brand" tires is useful if you are looking at saving some money!

Thanks for the info...  I've been checking TireRack and noticed the Continentals, although I've never heard of them. Are they a decent tire?  (Cross Contact LX)
The tread looks decent and the price is within my range.

Also trying to figure out where to find (or how to read) specs for rolling resistance on the tires.

http://www.greenseal.org/resources/reports/CGR_tire_rollingr esistance.pdf

Check out this website.  Note that the chart at the end of the article has listed tires all of which have low rolling resistance.  Michelins are prevalent on this list.
