My engine fan (radiator fan) on my 05 frontier is on all the time. Is this normal? The dealer says yes but I know for a fact that it was not like this when new. anyone have a similar problem or answer???

..

kevinmarkhad:

Welcome to the group.

Electric coolant fans are thermally controlled.

Mechanical coolant fans even with thermally controlled clutches rotate when the engine is running. My Frontier has both. The electric fan runs only when the A/C is on... I think!

Have a good one and see you later… Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State .

A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer! One took my wife!... J/K

I did a little looking around last nite on my wifes 06 Nissan Xterra and found that her fan is also on all the time. I ran them side by side as the engines are both identical 4.0L. The only defference I could find is that my fan seems to spin with the rev of the engine and hers spins, but not as fast when the engine is reving. Could this be a fan clutch problem?
