Hi.  I have a '06 Frontier.  I noticed that each time I go over a bump, the back end makes a "clunk" sound.  I had it in at the shop and they already replaced the springs (under warranty), but it is still making the clunk in the rear area everytime i go over a bump.  Does anyone have an idea what could be making that sound?

 Thanks.

..

wisteron73;

Check the hangers for the exhaust system. Is the rear axle hitting the exhaust system? Sometimes you need to put a wedge above the spare tire to keep it from shaking. See if the tail gate is really tight.

Check the shock mounts. It's also possible to have a broken part inside a shock.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Also look at the bolts that hold the leaf spring in place at both ends.  Make sure that the nuts are on tight.  Had this happen years ago on a new vehicle and it produced a noise when going over even small bumps.  I tightened the nuts after grousing to the dealer about build quality; the noise never came back.

Did you leave a towing bar in place in your hitch?  These can ratlle and cause noise.

I had the same thing and it was driving me nuts.  Mine was the trailer hitch ball socket in the receiver.  Took it out and no more clunk.  The hitch on my last truck fit really snugly in the receiver so I never thought about it.  There is some slop with the hitch I have now.
