I have a 2001 Frontier.  My truck has a noticeable shimmy when it rains or when it recently rained.  Admittedly, my check engine light is on and I have not had it checked.  During dry weather, I do not notice any problems.

I'm not very mechanical but I am willing to do some minor work.  A couple of years ago my dealership recommended I have the carbon cleaned from the engine and it was stupid expensive.

I'm reluctant to go to the dealer again.  It seems that for every problem with the truck,  they have a $1000 solution.

Any thoughts?

Is your intake hose on? if its not water may be getting slung up into the fan causing it to spray in the intake.  I have mine off but never have problems. But that was all i could come up with off the top of my head.

Wet distributor, wet spark plug wires (spray them with WD-40 during rain but before you drive to see if it eliminates the problem), wet ground connection somewhere that causes an intermittent "short" or voltage fluctuation.
