It started last week. I was sitting at a light and the engine died. I tried to start and the engine ran like it was hitting every fourth cylinder. The Check Engine light would flash on and off. Eventually, the car started to idle normally and I was able to drive it to my destination. This cycle repeated over the next several days.I took the car to Ferman Nissan they said that the Mass Airflow Sensor was running high. I had them replace the sensor for 400 bucks. The car ran fine the rest of the day, but started the same behavior that evening. My Dad purchased a code reader and it shows no trouble codes. The Check Engine light only flashes when the engine is running rough.. Until this point the car has given excellent service. I am so disgusted. Has anyone had this type of problem before  ?

RustyWatrous;

Welcome to the group! You may have crud in the fuel tank and /or fuel filters or a weak fuel pump. Trace the fuel lines back to the fuel tank. Remove fuel filters (you may want to empty the tank first or have a plug handy) and reverse - gently blow them out to see if crud comes out. Be careful not to create sparks. If you smoke don’t be a Darwin loser.  Make sure the fuel lines are shielded from heat sources

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State .

A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer! One took my wife!... J/K

i figured it out. It was a faulty Crankshaft position Sensor.

The Nissan Dealership didn't have a clue what was going on or how to fix it.

I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

Update. After 30 miles the stalling problem returned. To date, I've replaced the MAP sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft position sensor. No Luck.
The worst part is that the ECU does not set a trouble code. It's like the engine is shutting on and off very rapidly. I tried squirting Starting Fluid into the intake during the episodes to see if lack of fuel was the problem. It was not. Very Frustrated. Also noticed alot of blow by. The air filter is only 100 miles new, and it is black , saturated with oily blow by. Truck has 66,300 miles. I bought a 2008 Tacoma. Experience has soured me on Nissan products for good.

RustyWatrous;

We have had reports that any oil getting on the MAFS can screw it up and that was clean oil! Have you found the source of the oil???
