I have a 05 KC 4WD and recently needed to tow a trailer. I purchased a hookup cable that plugs into the 7 pin terminal (8?) mounted on the frame rail. I hooked it up and nothing! We were not exactly sure if it was the trailer (which of course we did not have a working truck to test it on), but after hooking up a multi-meter to the 4 pin terminal, i found only the Turn signal has positive voltage. The fuse labeled Tow Package or something like that was fine (In the main engine compartment fuse box).
Any troubleshooting suggestions? Thanks.

Update:

Using a multi meter, we've determined there is voltage everywhere except the tail light power. I'm putting it up on a lift to determine if its a dirty connector or other issue.

..

zrulli;

Welcome to the group... Let us know what you find...

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

Due to garage use and the timing, I was unable to under my truck to trace the bad wire. Checked an additional fuse, still had power. We ended up jerry rigging the tail light wire to the marker lights. For now it should be fine.

zrulli,

Don't remember exactly what it cost (maybe $15?) but I picked up a 7 to 4 pin converter (looks like a fatter version of a cigarette lighter plug) from Walmart that has LEDs on it. So when you turn the left blinker on, an LED lights up; the brake, another LED, etc etc. It's great for quickly identifying whether the problem is truck or trailer.

New on forum.  I had an aftermarket installer do my hitch/wiring install and they had trouble with the tail lights as well  They confirmed their equipment and I took it back to the dealer and they found a bad lead for the tail lights somewhere between the front fuse block and the rear harness.  He speculated either a fault in the wiring harness or a pinch or something during assembly.  Best as I can tell, they did a jump at the vehicle tail lights.  Still need to check the electric brake controller but need acess to a trailer that hasn't died like ours did last year!
