Want to know the biggest tire you can run on a stock '05+ Frontier?   I
searched before I went to buy and couldn't really find much info on how
big you can go with a stock 4x4. I have a stock '05 Frontier LE 4x4 Crew
Cab and just put on some tires for some off road fun!   My new purchase
is one of the best of my life. Thought I'd give some info for those of you
curious how tall/wide you can go without rubbing/modifications. I found
BFGoodrich Mud Terrains, did some calculations and careful measuring
and found that the biggest upgrade you can make (on a non-lifted '05+
frontier) is a 255/75/17 which works out to a 10" wide x 32" tall tire.
Stock was a 265/65/17 which works out to about a 10.43" wide x 30.5"
tall tire. I tried to find ones for 15" and 16" wheels but could not find the
tire that would come up to those 32"x10" dimensions, so this is just for a
17x7.5" wheel. I was mainly looking for height which essentially raises
the differential off the ground, etc. (side note: my speedometer also read
a little fast before the new tires and the larger circumference actually got
the speedometer to read spot on, according to gps) I am very pleased so
far with the new tires by the way and would recommend them, they look
awesome and ride nicely and got me easily through an icy mudhole just
yesterday. I wanted to get a wider tire (they look a tad skinny) but
rubbing would have definitely been a problem when turning. In fact, I
removed the front mud flaps because removing them gains appr. 3/16"
more clearance.
Some more rambling: I have researched as much as I can online for a 2-
3" lift kit and have really been impressed with the company
4x4partsonline.com. They have nice options for simple lifts up to some
pretty intense crawling lifts. When the funds permit, I'm looking at
getting their "Competition Suspension Package" which has an ADJUSTABLE
front shock setup that goes up to 3" of lift and a 3" rear lift. I capitalize
ADJUSTABLE because I went through a whole nightmare with the Calmini
3" lift kit with spacers up front. I had multiple problems with their lift and
their customer service. I've heard a couple people not having any trouble
but my experience was horrible. Ended up returning and plan on going
with 4x4parts online. They seem to be very knowledgeable. Alright
that's it. I'll be glad to try and answer any questions that come along. I'm
new to 4x4 as I used to be addicted to driving fast on paved roads, but
now have a new love.

really depends on the tire. if you go with an MT the sidewall is a 75 not a 70 like stock so biggest you really wanna go is 265/75/R16 or r17 depending on your rim size. if you want bigger you may go 285/75/R16 or R17 but you WILL be cutting some plastics off the front end and KILLING your gas milage. personally i went 265 with a 3in lift and i love it. im only getting 13-14 mpgs though.

Why is it that the politicians in D.C. are the only ones that don’t know there are better things to make Ethanol out of than corn?…  Answer… They know! They know! Guess why they don’t correct the problem.
